Cause

Error 15 occurs when the hall sensor in the brake receives an incorrect reading upon startup.

Usually, error 15 is just caused when the cable becomes slightly or fully unplugged, but sometimes it can still be plugged in correctly and just reports an incorrect value.

This can be due to demagnetization of the neodymium magnets, dislodging of the magnets, or damage to the housing of the brake assembly causing the lever to not seat properly.

It can also be caused if the lever is slightly pressed upon vehicle startup.

Fix

First, check that the cable has not come unplugged by removing the dashboard.

Temporary

In some cases, the error can be resolved by manually adjusting the brake lever until the error disappears before riding.

Permanent

Magnets may be dislodged from the brake assembly and can be re-inserted into the proper slots by taking apart the brake assembly. It is necessary to ensure that the polarity of the magnets is correct upon re-insertion.

In some cases, this does not fix the issue or is not the problem, to begin with. In this case, the easiest solution is to replace the entire brake assembly although it is possible that new magnets would also solve the issue.

If the above doesn't solve error 15, you may need to try following the steps at Replace Ninebot ESX Brake Hall Sensor.
