JLasers 1.6W/1600mW 450nm Laser Pointer Tests and Review

July 20th, 2023

After seeing a Reddit post by JLasers with a sale for a handheld 1.6W for $49.99, I figured I’d give them a shot.

I placed an order on 2023-04-19, and it shipped on 2023-05-03, delivered from Canada to where I am in San Diego on 2023-05-09.

Initial Thoughts/Design

The laser itself is impressively small and feels solid.

The lens is a little hard to twist due to its recessed position.

The rear power on/off takes a little effort to push so it doesn't feel likely to accidentally enable.

Overall I’m impressed with the build quality and the look of the unit.

Power Output Tests

This laser has an M140 445nm diode in it. These diodes often run at 1W-2.2W so 1.6W is right in the middle.

I was able to pull well over 1W with mine.

I was able to pull well over 1W with mine.

I was able to get 1.2W/1210mW out of mine with freshly charged Vapcell Purple 10A High Current 14500 batteries.

1210mW is enough for me, but I reached out to Jimmy at Jlasers just to clarify, and offered to replace the entire unit for me.

He takes about 1 week to respond as this is not his primary business but was very helpful. He reiterated that the devices were covered under warranty and offered me some troubleshooting steps.

I opted not to replace the unit as 1.2W is perfectly fine and the extra 400mW doesn’t really matter to me in my use case for this.
