Firmware is the "operating system" of the different parts of the unit.

INV(INV1, INV2)/Inverter firmware is responsible for the inverters that turn DC battery voltage into AC voltage for the onboard outlets.
There are two of them which both have separate firmware.
INV2 3.3.7 was the first known INV 2 update.
